Aviation Noise Analyst

Blue Ridge Research and Consulting, LLC (BRRC) is currently seeking an experienced environmental noise analyst for our Asheville, NC office. This position involves work on a diverse set of projects including preparation of airport/airfield noise analyses for civilian and military customers in support of FAA Part 150, Environmental Impact Analysis, and/or DoD AICUZ studies. Responsibilities include modeling aviation and other transportation noise sources, interaction with commercial and DoD clients, and technical reporting. In addition, contributing to our applied research projects will provide the successful applicant with interesting and rewarding work.

Skills: Applicants must be team oriented, have excellent oral and written communication skills and enjoy working in a high-energy environment. Further, they must apply their strong analytical and computer skills to unique and challenging problems in the military and transportation industries.

Experience: Minimum of two years experience conducting aviation noise analyses using the FAA’s Integrated Noise Model and/or the DoD’s NoiseMap program. Familiarity with airport environmental studies and data collection is required. Additional experience with GIS analysis, computer programming, or other transportation noise models such as TNM, is preferred. The successful applicant will be encouraged to explore new opportunities as well as expand and improve current lines of work.

Education: B.S. degree or higher with a major in planning, sciences, or engineering disciplines preferred. Degrees in other areas will be considered for more experienced applicants.

Acoustical Engineer

Blue Ridge Research and Consulting, LLC is currently seeking an experienced acoustical engineer for our Asheville, NC office. This position involves conducting research in a wide range of environmental acoustic areas including sound and noise source measurements, general and specialized modeling, soundscape and transportation noise visualizations, and outdoor warning system design. Current research areas include noise source visualization of military fighter jets and rocket plumes, long-range sound propagation, and flight profile optimization. Responsibilities include applied acoustic research and modeling, technical reporting, and client interaction.

Skills: Applicants must be team oriented, have excellent oral and written communication skills and enjoy working in a high-energy environment. Further, they must apply their strong analytical and computer skills to unique and challenging problems in the military and transportation industries. Computer programming skills are pertinent to success, particularly the following languages: FORTRAN, Matlab, C++, C#, and VB.

Experience: Minimum of two years of experience conducting acoustical research and consulting is required. A working knowledge of outdoor sound propagation and acoustic measurement and signal processing techniques is preferred. Additional experience with GIS analysis, computer programming, or other transportation noise models such as TNM, is preferred. The applicant will be encouraged to explore new areas of opportunities as well as expand and improve current lines of work. Previous experience interacting with clients, conducting business development and proposal writing, is preferred.

Education: B.S. degree with a major in physics or engineering disciplines; Master of Science degree or higher preferred.
