Acoustic Mission Planning - 03/20/08

BRRC wins contract to develop Cursor-on-Target Flight Path Guidance as a near real-time mission planning tool for maximum “show-of-force” effect through exploitation of the focus of sonic booms.

Background

Current military scenarios call for “show-of-force” operations. There is interest in increasing the effectiveness of these operations with the use of focused sonic booms. At this time no analytical capability is available to support this type of novel, non-lethal mission planning.

Purpose

Develop a low cost, efficient method of mission planning for non-lethal deterrence missions and “show-of-force” by exploiting the physics of sonic booms along a planned mission route.  The goal is to provide the pilot with a distinct flight profile to achieve a non-lethal tactic to disperse hostile enemies.

Approach

Modify existing modules and develop software for analysis of sonic boom propagation.  Incorporate analysis into a FalconView display.  Target designation will be through standard “9-line” interface.  The completed software package will provide flight path guidance to the pilot.
