Indian Point Siren Measurement - 03/26/07

BRRC wins contract to verify proper function of the Indian Point Entergy Center emergency outdoor warning system.

Description

The Entergy Corporation contracted with Blue Ridge Research and Consulting, LLC to conduct acoustical tests on the new siren system at the Indian Point Enetergy Center as part of the full warning siren system check. The additional acoustical testing by BRRC included monitoring the siren signal during the full system tests and dedicated measurements of individual sirens.

Methodology

The first phase of the project sampled the full system siren signals (over 150 sirens) at nine locations throughout the EPZ. This test involved three separate soundings of the siren system. The second phase of the testing involved measuring the sound output of three individual sirens using ANSI standard methodology. The accoustical data obtained with these measurements can be used by Entergy Corporation as part of their verification that the new sirens are meeting the manufacturer's specifications.
